Former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi dies at age of 86

Earlier, the hospital had said in a statement on Thursday that Joshi, 86, was seriously ill. The veteran Shivsena leader was admitted to the ISI hospital last year after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi passed away at 3:00 am on Friday morning in a hospital in Mumbai where he was admitted after cardiac arrest at the age of 86. According to the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Wednesday was admitted to the ICU of PD Hinduja hospital where he breathed his last in his own medical facility.

Brain hemorrhage also occurred in May last year

Earlier, the hospital had said in a statement on Thursday that Manohar Joshi was terminally ill at the age of 86. The veteran Shiv sena leader was admitted to the ISI hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage in May last year. Manohar Joshi was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999. He was the first leader to occupy the top seat in the state due to the undivided Shiv Sena, he was also elected in the form of Parliament and was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004 when Bihari Vajpayee’s government was in power.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the death of CM Manohar Joshi. He tweeted that the news of the death of former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, is deeply saddening. The contribution will never be forgotten, I offer my tribute to my beloved.

Also served as Lok Sabha speaker in BJP government

Manohar Joshi started his professional career in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 2002 to 2004 and was also the Lok Sabha speaker. Manohar Joshi started his professional career in the year 1967, after which he remained Mumbai Nagar Nigam Parshad from 1968 to 70 and later in Mumbai Nagar Nigam. Manohar Joshi was also the chairman of the stacking committee between 1976 and 77. Manohar Joshi was also the mayor of Mumbai in 1972. Manohar Joshi was elected as the president of Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha Parishad in 1972 and he remained its president in the year 1990. Manohar Joshi was also elected as the president of Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha in 1990. During this time, Manohar Joshi also remained the leader of the opposition.
